Sue Kittow

Location: Falmouth
About The Speaker...

I have worked as a freelance journalist and researcher, and author of five books on Cornish walks – Discover Cornwall, Walks in the Footsteps of Cornish Writers, Walks in the Footsteps of Poldark, WITF of Rosamunde Pilcher and WITF of Daphne du Maurier.

My debut novel, The Rescue was published late 2022, a tale of second chances written by woman’s best friend; terrier Moll and set in Cornwall. “The best book I’ve read in 2022” according to one review.

The sequel, Lainy’s Tail, will be published late 2023, and this is a novel about overcoming problems in a strange country, from the point of view of a Romanian rescue dog, but also looks into various mental health problems, written with the same wry sense of humour.

About Their Talks...

I am happy to talk about how I came to be published; about Daphne du Maurier’s influence on my work (and Poldark and Rosamunde Pilcher, along with other Cornish writers) and the walks inspired by their many novels; about the difference between traditional publishing and self publishing, and how it’s never to late to start. I had my first commission as a journalist at the age of 50, my first novel published at 64 and haven’t stopped since! I usually read out extracts from the books and have a Q & A at the end. Sometimes I do an “Interview with Sue Kittow” session where I am interviewed by Pauline Causey ex-BBC Radio Cornwall.

Walks in the Footsteps of Daphne du Maurier and The Rescue

A light hearted look at Sue’s book, Walks in the Footsteps of Daphne du Maurier, with readings from some of the many walks inspired by Du Maurier’s novels. Sue will also talk about her novel, The Rescue, a tale of second chances written by her late dog, and how it’s never too late to become published…

It's Never Too Late

Sue Kittow talks about her route through publishing – from getting her first journalism commission at the age of 50, to publishing her first novel aged 64. She talks about her Walks in the Footsteps series of five Cornish walking books inspired by Daphne du Maurier, Poldark, Rosamunde Pilcher and other Cornish Writers, as well as her novels, The Rescue, a quirky tale of second chances, and why she wrote it from the point of view of a dog. She will also talk about the difference between traditional publishing and self publishing, having tried both.
